The Fourth Vane

A hack-and-slash action RPG set in a falling kingdom. As the Finder, a relic-hunter for hire, cross four acts of fens, frozen foundries and a chained enemy fleet to recover the Vanes of a lost saint. Only the Vanes can call the wind that decides a war.

About the game

The Old Kingdom of Aurel is dead, and three crowns fight over what's left. In the north, Malcor Draven, the Iron Warden, marches south with the largest army the land has ever seen. He raises the dead of every battlefield he crosses to swell its ranks. Between him and the rich river-duchies lies the Vesper, a river a mile wide, and the red cliffs that guard its narrows.

The south can't win that battle. It might win a wind.

Oswin Hale, an old hermit who reads the stars, believes the four Vanes of Saint Ysolde the Weatherwright can call a wind out of season. Set on one altar, they could drive fire ships into the Warden's chained fleet. The Vanes were lost a century ago. You are the Finder, the last resort of desperate lords, and Hale is sending you to bring them home before the ice breaks and the Ironchain sails.

The Fourth Vane is a classic isometric action RPG. You fight through packs of monsters, grow a build from hundreds of choices, hunt for loot and push the story toward its ending. It plays as well on a gamepad or a handheld as it does with a keyboard.

A complete four-act story.

• 52 areas: the forests of the Greenmarch, the drowned chapels of the Blackfen, the frozen foundries of the Hoarfrost Pass, and the Red Reach, where the war is decided on the Warden's burning fleet.

Three classes, fifteen skills, forty-six evolutions.

• Warrior: Heavy Strike, Cleave, Shield Slam and Battle Cry.
• Mage: Fireball, Frost Nova, Arc and Mana Shield.
• Hunter: a bow that looses volleys while you hold the button, plus Blade Vortex, Explosive Trap, Tiger Grace and Backstep.
• Every skill has its own tree, and most can evolve into something new. Fireball becomes a falling Meteor.

Deep builds.

• A class passive tree of nearly a hundred nodes per class.
• 30 keystones that bend the rules.
• 59 support gems that grow with the kills they share.
• Every point comes from levelling up and from the Level Books earned from quests. You never have enough of them to take everything, so every point is a choice.

Loot worth chasing.

• Magic, rare and 130 unique items, each built around a skill.
• Item levels and tiered affixes.
• Rare monsters with up to nine affixes: Hardy, Brutal, Warded, Undying, Brooding and more.

The Forge. Reshape your gear with 13 crystals and a ladder of tokens, from Iron to Platinum, that raise an item from +1 to +10.

Bosses with a history. Each act has named foes: a canon of the Grey Choir, the three Cantors, the Corpse-Cardinal, the Iron Reeve. The final fight is against the Warden's chained champion, in an arena three times the size of an ordinary deck.

A finale with no safety net.

• Once the champion falls there's no saving, no portal home and no waypoint.
• Every deck fills with monsters again.
• You have four minutes to get off the burning Ironchain.

Vesperhold, your home base. A walled river town with a smith, a lapidary for gems, merchants, a stash, and townsfolk whose lines change as the war goes on.

Deaths that matter. Dying costs a share of your experience, and the share grows with your level.
